The Digital Preservation Initiatives (DPI) group at the San Diego
Supercomputer Center (SDSC) offers a wide range of digital preservation
programs and brings cutting-edge research and services to organizations
around the country. We provide support to local, national and
international communities that promote the preservation of
digital materials.
The DPI group focuses SDSC's immense technical expertise in
preservation technologies to an expanding repertoire of preservation
and curation programs from diverse agencies and organizations around the world.
Active Projects and Events
ChronopolisThe Chronopolis Digital Preservation Program is a collaborative initiative between SDSC, the UC San Diego Libraries, the National Center for Atmospheric Research,and the University of Maryland Institute for Advanced Computer Studies to build a long-term digital preservation environment using the latest in storage technologies and grid-enabled cyberinfrastructure. |

Mass TransitThe Mass Transit project is a collaboration dedicated to better understanding issues in large scale transfer and replication of data in the context of digital preservation. The primary deliverables will include extensive data transfer tests and a publicly available, jointly authored CDL/SDSC document on best practices and situation-based recommendations for institutions embarking on large data transfer in the context of preservation. |
Data ReliabilityThe DPI group also manages data reliability efforts for SDSC. This is a wide-reaching effort examining best practices for storage of massive amounts of high-performance computing data as well as long-term preservation efforts |
